How to Take a Great Paw Print Impression

Ready to take your first paw print impression? Follow these simple steps in our video below.

  1. Start by removing the clay disc from our Pawkit packaging. Notice that one side has the clay exposed.

  2. Ideally, find a large flat surface (like a tabletop), and place the clay kit face-up on the table.

  3. Have the pet with their belly on the table and the clay kit in front of them.

  4. Then place their paw directly into the centre of the disc and press firmly on the main paw pad with the heel of your hand.

  5. Next, use your fingers to grab and press each toe into the clay individually. About a 1/4 inch deep is enough.

  6. Lift their paw up and away from the clay. If you can see definition of the main pad and each toe, you're all set!

  7. Place the kit back into the packaging along with a completed order card and seal the bag shut. Now it's ready to send to us.

Where to Store Your Clay Pawkits

Your Spawts Pawkits should always be stored at room temperature. Find a cupboard or shelf space away from sunlight and any heat/cold sources. Once you've taken an impression, continue to store the clay at room temperature. When you receive new clay Pawkits from us, place these at the back of your Pawkit inventory so you are sure to use your oldest clay first.

Tips for Taking Large Dog Paw Prints

For the rare very large dog, you'll want to place their nails outside of the clay disc to allow room for all toes and the main paw pad to fit on the clay. If you'd like us to make this finished impression larger with a little breathing room around the paw print, just write 'XL' in the Special Instructions line of the order card.

Tips for Taking Cat Paw Prints

To avoid cat nails extending too deep into the clay, use your thumb and pointer finger to press each toe into the clay one at a time.
